EA SPORTS FC 27 Players & ICONs
Cover stars, a 21,000+ licensed roster, and the two different overall-rating systems in FC 27.
EA SPORTS FC 27 is still on the road to a worldwide launch on 25 September 2026, with Ultimate and Ultimate Plus early access from 18 September 2026. This unofficial fan wiki maps the licensed roster, the cover athletes, and the two very different ways an overall rating will behave once you load a match.
Use this hub as a directory. Jump to the Class of ‘27 ICONs for the official ten and returning legends, the Top 27 ratings for Mbappé, Haaland, and Putellas, then player ratings for how to read a card. Club-building lives in Ultimate Team; save-game growth lives in Career Mode. Pre-launch role projections sit on the Tier List Hub. If you are taking a Pro into Clubs, start with The Grounds.
Cover stars
Kylian Mbappé is the Standard Edition cover athlete and also fronts Ultimate. The limited Ultimate Plus Edition, sold through the early-bird window that closed on 31 August 2026, places Mbappé beside Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham. Those faces are marketing, but they also match the live players you will see first in Kick-Off, Career, and Football Ultimate Team. Both sit among the highest published ratings EA has shown so far: Mbappé shares the 91 OVR men’s ceiling with Erling Haaland, while Alexia Putellas leads the revealed women’s list at the same number.
Cover art is not a chemistry link. Bellingham on the Ultimate Plus box does not change how you pair him in FUT, and Mbappé’s 91 is a licensed snapshot, not a promise that every special item will stay at that number through the year.
21,000+ licensed players
EA’s authenticity pitch for FC 27 is scale: more than 21,000 players, 800-plus clubs and national teams, 130-plus stadiums, and 35-plus leagues. That database is the same licensed pool Kick-Off and Career start from. Squad updates after launch can move club crests, kits, and ratings as real-world windows close. Until 25 September, treat published numbers as the launch snapshot, not a live Weekend League ladder.
Women’s football sits in the same player model. Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Khadija Shaw, and the rest of the revealed 90-plus group use the same attributes, PlayStyles, and roles as the men’s game. If you are planning mixed or women’s-only squads, read the card the same way you would for a men’s item rather than assuming last year’s habits still apply.
ICONs at a glance
The Class of ‘27 adds ten official ICONs. Christine Sinclair’s Champion ST is the headline 91. Sergio Agüero, Raphaël Varane, Formiga, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Hege Riise, and Tobin Heath sit at 90 Champion. Yūki Nagasato, Pepe, and Ellen White close the class at 89. Six of those names — Formiga, Hege Riise, Yūki Nagasato, Tobin Heath, Ellen White, and Christine Sinclair — are first-time FC 27 ICONs. Returning legends announced alongside them include Zinedine Zidane, Ruud Gullit, Fernando Torres, Gianluca Zambrotta, Andrea Pirlo, and Bastian Schweinsteiger, plus Lúcio and Yaya Touré moving up from Hero.
Debut items start at 85 or 86. Champion versions are the 89–91 cards shown in marketing. That gap matters if you claimed an International ICON pre-order item: you are holding the lower item first. Full tables live on the Class of ‘27 ICONs page.
Hall of FUT is a separate FUT Gallery track. Those items celebrate in-game fame, not a real-world ICON career, and they do not grant ICON chemistry. See Ultimate Team for Gallery sets.
Dynamic OVR is not FUT OVR
Career Mode’s headline change is Dynamic OVR. Form, morale, match fitness, and injury can push a player’s current overall up or down during a save. A 90-rated midfielder on a heater can play above the card you remember from the ratings reveal; the same player benched, unhappy, or carrying a niggle can drop. Attribute movement leans into the role they are actually playing.
That system does not rewrite your FUT club. Ultimate Team items keep the overall printed on the card until EA upgrades them through campaigns, Evolutions, or Season Pass tracks. Kick-Off uses the licensed snapshot with no Career form and no FUT chemistry. If a YouTube thumbnail treats a Career overall as a FUT meta ranking, ignore it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Launch week answers on editions, The Grounds, Career, and Ultimate Team.
Who is on the EA SPORTS FC 27 cover?
Kylian Mbappé is the Standard (and Ultimate) cover star. The Ultimate Plus Edition adds Jude Bellingham beside him. Edition bonuses are listed on the editions page.
How many licensed players are in FC 27?
EA's authenticity materials cite more than 21,000 players across 800-plus clubs and national teams, 130-plus stadiums, and 35-plus leagues. Squad updates can still move names after launch.
Does Dynamic OVR change Football Ultimate Team cards?
No. Dynamic OVR is a Career Mode system driven by form, morale, fitness, and injury. FUT items keep the overall printed on the card until EA upgrades that specific item. See player ratings for the distinction.
Where should I start if I only care about legends?
Open the Class of '27 ICONs page for the official ten, returning names, and the International ICON pre-order path. Hall of FUT is not an ICON tier; that collection is covered in Ultimate Team.
